Classical Chamber Music and Concertos
Once praised by The New York Times as being “the most ambitious” amateur chorus in Westchester, the Hudson Valley Singers has been enriching the cultural life of Westchester and Manhattan since its debut concert in Hastings-on-Hudson in March 1951. HVS performs classical choral music of the 17th through 20th centuries, under the direction of Eugene Sirotkine, formerly Assistant Chorusmaster at the Metropolitan Opera. Each Year the group presents two concerts in the lower Hudson Valley. The Hudson Valley Singers goals are to educate and entertain the community with top quality choral performances and to provide their amateur singers with professional guidance and instruction.

What a pleasure it is having Douglass join Riverrun on bass this year, and with our special guest Bill Reeve on drums we have a fresh new sound for 2024. The Quintin Harris Quartet (led by vocalist and pianist, Quintin Harris) is excited to be playing on this year’s RiverArts Tour. The group (with Bailey Giles on saxophone, Sam AuBuchon on bass, and Marlen Suero-Amparo on drums) found a deeper understanding of this music under the tutelage of their longtime mentor and influence, Bill Charlap. Recently, they returned to the legendary Birdland Jazz Club for two sold-out performances. The Quintin Harris Quartet was formed to uphold the tradition of “The Great American Songbook” and their love for small-group arrangements by such artists like Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, and Sonny Clark, to name a few. The Quintin Harris Quartet is excited to debut new arrangements at Purpl for the 2024 RiverArts Tour.

Shona mbira music of Zimbabwe is one of the most soulful sounds on the African continent. Originally used in all-night spirit possession ceremonies, the iron-pronged mbira produces music beautiful enough to attract the spirits and rhythmically charged enough to keep people dancing throughout the night. MAPUTI plays traditional songs that have been handed down to us by master musicians of Zimbabwe

Mike Borgia is an Italian American singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist from New York. Best known for his dynamic 5 octave vocal range and unique melodic structures, floating in genres of blues, alternative rock and indie. With a large back catalogue of releases , Mike’s sound is a captivating example of musicianship that translates effortlessly into a mesmerizing and dynamic live experience. He is influenced by the likes of Chris Whitley, LedBelly, Howlin’ Wolf, and Jonny Lang.

Joel Arnow is a drummer as well as a producer, engineer and mixer. Nick Truetwine is an editor for The New Yorker by day, and a superb tenor saxophonist by night. John Lang is a Jazz Bassist and composer. His most recent record “Earotica” (Released on the Cellar Live label) can be found on all major streaming sites.

Phil Palombi – bass
Kat has a soul steeped in jazz. Born in Boston, she began her music theory training as a teenager at Berklee and then fell in love with the energy of New York City and went on to gain her BFA from NYU. She has performed twice at the GRAMMY Awards with the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Kat continues to explore the depth of jazz fusion and improvisation with her versatile, extraordinary ear and voice.

His songwriting has been compared to Bobs Dylan and Marley, Paul Simon and more.

A twenty-plus year musical collaboration between singer/songwriters D.C. Anderson and Ritt Henn continues in a concert of some of their favorite jazz standards and original compositions.
D.C. Anderson has spent most of his adult life on Broadway (THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA), Off Broadway (QUEEN OF THE MIST) and on the Guthrie and Steppenwolf stages. As a singer/songwriter, he has recorded over a dozen albums (streaming everywhere). His musical influences are all from the worlds of musical theater, vocal jazz and folk music.
Ritt Henn plays bass, writes songs, created four CDs of original music, one DVD of short films and produced over 200 episodes of ManBassBoxTV. Appeared Off-Broadway, performed with Chuck Berry, toured with Kathleen Turner and is a Bistro and MAC Award winner. Always a bassist, sometimes a musical director, ukulele plucker, singer and artistic whistler.

Hooked, Erik began studying music at 11, was teaching by 16, and opened a teaching studio/music store at 18.

Clay played drums with Cuba Gooding, Bill Withers & Jerry Bergonzi. Sometimes raucous, often joyful, always new.

Old Dogs New Tricks is husband-and-husband duo Mark Davis and Jim Howe with flutist Paul Harris. Their songs ask what it means to be human and how, in the words of the poet Mary Oliver, we can make the most of our “one wild and precious life.” Forming Old Dogs New Tricks is one answer they came up with for themselves. Their sound has been described as part folk, part art song, and very much their own. They just released their second studio album, “Forever,” in February 2024.

Charlie Rhyner has assembled a stellar quartet of local musicians who will be bringing his modern, yet lyrical compositions to life. The interplay of the saxophone and the guitar are at the forefront while the structure of the writing, which stays in the jazz idiom, provides a springboard for improvisational sparks to fly. Charlie’s compositions are derived from an internal spark from the connection between his heart and ears, influenced by his life as a teacher, father, and musician.

Her recordings have aired on radio in North America and overseas – most notably on Australia’s National Public Radio. She continues to write and produce from her home in New York.
