The Black Capsule

Psychedelic jam band with a NY attitude keeping the spirit of ’60’s/’70’s rock music alive

New Yorkers from jam, punk, jazz, soul and samba bands joined forces in 2018 to form this psychedelic rock powerhouse. In May 2019 The Black Capsule released their eponymous album to critical acclaim and was compared to legendary acts such as the Velvet Underground, The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd and The Doors by New York Music Daily. Divining Rod emerges from the pandemic with the release of The House Will Always Win; recorded at Virtue & Vice Studios in Brooklyn with Anthony TJ ‘Rocky’ Gallo (Cigarettes After Sex, John Legend).

Originally a solo project of Hawaiian native Miyuki Furtado of the formerTooPure recording artists, The Rogers Sisters. After recruiting guitarist Patrick Harmon, Furtado started playing shows handling guitar, vocals, and drums. Second drummer John Malone and bassist Matt Svigals round out the band.

Mark Kaufman – sax, Glenn Babakian – trombone, Sarah Jane Cion – keyboards, Josh Sherwood – bass, and John Clay – drums

Exit 12 is eclectic. Babakian plays jazz & classical trombone. Kaufman plays tenor sax & other reeds; he released an album of originals in 2023 with Tim Armacost, Harvie S, Steve Johns & Cion. Cion won the Great American Jazz Piano contest, & played with Clark Terry, Etta Jones & Don Braden. Sherwood plays Jazz, Rock, and R&B electric bass & performs with Joey Berkley & Chris Parker. Clay played drums with Cuba Gooding, Bill Withers & Jerry Bergonzi. Sometimes raucous, often joyful, always new.

While traveling in Spain I was cast under a spell by the strains of beautiful flamenco music. In this trancelike state I was set upon by gypsies and robbed. Vowing revenge, I have studied their musical forms hoping to weave a few spells of my own.

Old Dogs New Tricks

Harmony infused original contemporary folk from husband and husband duo Mark Davis and Jim Howe

Old Dogs New Tricks is husband-and-husband duo Mark Davis and Jim Howe with flutist Paul Harris. Their songs ask what it means to be human and how, in the words of the poet Mary Oliver, we can make the most of our “one wild and precious life.” Forming Old Dogs New Tricks is one answer they came up with for themselves. Their sound has been described as part folk, part art song, and very much their own. They just released their second studio album, “Forever,” in February 2024.

WCS is Westchester County’s premier chamber orchestra and chamber ensemble network, comprised of seasoned professional and advanced avocational musicians dedicated to performing the Concerto literature for piano and for all other solo symphonic instruments – with its members taking turns as concerto soloists – as well as diverse and exciting selections from the chamber and symphonic repertoire.
